Unfortunately I had some real life interruptions last week (namely me being sick).  So I was unable to get the Friday update posted.  Since work is keeping me busy early this week, I'll be doubling up this Friday's update with two week's worth of new episodes.

Warning:  If you want to pick up a new show that is an obvious serial (with episodes well past number 1), then take the time to go back into the past episodes and listen to them from the very beginning.  Otherwise you might end up totally lost.

That being said, here are some of the latest releases that have come out over the last seven days across the internet:

We're Alive - Chapter 18 - Part 2 - "No Place Like Home":
(New to this series? Get downloads of earlier chapters
here.)
In this episode of "We're Alive", Michael, Kelly, and Pegs learn more about the surprising secure colony of survivors that they've discovered while getting medical attention.  However, there's more to this place than meets the eye.  Meanwhile, Angel and Kalani (along w/Skittles) try to figure out how to get past the monstrous zombie that has them pinned. (Mod Summary)

Black Jack Justice - Episode 41 - "Man's Best Friend":
(New to this series? Get downloads of earlier chapters
here.)
There is always more than one side to every story. And when you're dealing with a newspaper magnate, a missing heiress, a kidnapping with no ransom and an angry fishmonger, sometimes there are more sides than story. No simple matter for your average gumshoe, but just another day at the office for... Man's Best Friend.

The Kingery - Season 4 - Episode 8 - "A Momentary Lapse":
(New to this series? Get downloads of earlier chapters
here.)
Tythia and Devi fight for business while Maddie learns a clue and Asa gets caught in the crossfire!

Star Trek Defiant - Episode 53 - "Memory":
(New to this series? Get downloads of earlier chapters
here.)
A mystery is brought to light and a colony endangered as Captain Bridges fights with the Governor!

Bingo the Birthday Clown - Episode 30 - The Final Bingo!!!!:
(New to this series? Get downloads of earlier chapters

Enjoy!  What a long strange trip it has been.....

Star Trek: Outpost - Episode 22 Promo - Shades of the Present:

Buchanan’s past threatens to catch up to him, and an uncertain future looms for Tovar-Smith in this season finale of Star Trek: Outpost.

Mod Notes:

This week we picked up a couple new members of the club.  To you I bid welcomes and I hope you enjoy the shows that are shared here.  This month I'll be working to add more folks to the community here.  I want to hopefully see at least twenty total members by the end of February. That is my goal.

Additionally, I'm working on my first production company spotlight for the ADC.  The showcase will be on the very first group I ever listened to, Decoder Ring Theatre.  I'll be going over their various serials, actors, writers, and any awards they have won in recent years.

One more thing... If any new member here has an audio series or show they love, but isn't showcased here, then by all means speak up and share it with us!

Also, in the coming weeks, I'll be writing some articles showcasing specific series, active production groups, and classic old-school radio shows.  These will be put out about once a week, though not on Friday.

I know the group is still pretty small right now, but if anyone here wants to bring in other folks, or if they know of shows out there that are not currently being covered here, feel free to post these things on the community.

I know it's been a long while since I updated this community, but now that it's a new year, I'm coming back to revive this concept of mine with a vengeance.

My goals are as such:

1.  To post regular updates on when new ongoing audio shows are updated across the web.
2.  To showcase various production groups and the incredible works they've created.
3.  To advertise regularly to increase the member base.

Here's to hoping for 2011.

Cool! An audio drama group on LiveJournal that's actually active. I host a podcast on pop culture called The Chronic Rift. Most of our episodes are discussion, but we have posted four episodes featuring original audio dramas, two of them featuring the cast of the show. You can check it out at chronirift.com or by finding us on iTunes.

First time posting, but the posting's relevant. My father recently passed away. I had thought about doing a tribute to him shortly after he passed, but I found it weird to record. It was only recently when I was going over my eulogy to him and thinking about him that I found a way to pay proper tribute to him and thus, here is this episode. Included are two episodes from old time radio Westerns - Gunsmoke and Have Gun, Will Travel. Please let me know what you think by checking in at the forums at chronicrift.com or by calling toll free at 888-866-9010.

Imagine the character of Gregory House (from the show House) as a psychologist-turn-paranormal investigator instead of a doctor.  Also imagine him with an addiction to whiskey instead of prescription pain meds, and with a shriveled (ie. cursed) shriveled hand instead of a ruined leg.

Imagine all this and the character you get is Dr. Xander Crowe, the protagonist of the audio drama series called Wormwood

Wormwood is a drama that represents what you might get if you cross X-Files with the Twilight Zone, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and a dash of Twin Peaks for flavor.

Here is the little blurb from the website describing the plot of the show:

Doctor Xander Crowe was a formidable psychologist until a terrible tragedy sent him spiraling down the dark pathways of the occult. Now, a strange vision leads Doctor Crowe to the hidden town of Wormwood, where shadows lurk in every corner and evil stains the souls of the inhabitants. Welcome to Wormwood.

The show is incredibly well done with an excellent cast of characters, amazing writing, and incredible sound effects and music.  One could quite easily see this series as being an actual television drama or movie series.

This is definitely a series that one should listen to if you're into any of the genres that this show represents.

If you or a friend are a newcomer to the audio drama scene, it's my opinion that one of the best ways to introduce yourself to the genre is to find a good variety series to sink your teeth into.

The best part of variety series is that each show is usually a one-shot, stand-alone episode.  They are self-contained stories that do not rely upon any knowledge of any particular series to enjoy.  Another similarly good part is that these stories can vary widely in genre.

19 Nocturne Boulevard
is, in my opinion, one of the best sites on the web for variety shows.  They have a wide collection of episodes that cover horror, suspense, mystery, comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, and western.  They are also still actively releasing new episodes every few weeks.  All their shows are written by Julie Hoverson, who is an an absolute master of her craft and has won several awards for her works.

Eventually I would like to showcase some of my favorite individual episodes of 19 Nocturne Boulevard on the Audio Drama Club.  However, for now I will be content to share the links to the general website for you to browse through yourselves.

Download 19 Nocturne Boulevard here:
  • individual episodes
  • bundled episodes of 13 can be found by scrolling partway down the page linked above

I seem to be on a nostalgic fan-fiction kick this week.  Yesterday was Indiana Jones.  Today is Batman.

Specifically, I'm listening to Pendant Productions' series Batman: The Ace of Detectives.

I know there's a couple of Batman audio dramas on the web, but this is the first one I decided to check out, and I'm glad that I did.

I'm seven episodes in right now and I'm really impressed with the actors portraying the various character voices, especially the Joker.  He sounds a great deal like Mark Hamil's Joker from the animated series of the 1990s.  He's my favorite Joker voice of them all.

Thus far there are 54 episodes, the first one released back in 2006, and with a new one slated for release this coming August.  So if you're looking for a lengthy ongoing series, and you're a Batman fan, then this is a series you should look into.
